Yes, you can comment on a planning application by submitting your views directly to the Local Planning Authority during the consultation period.
However, it is important that any comments focus on planning-related considerations, as only “material considerations” can be taken into account in the decision-making process. Submitting comments that are not relevant to planning may carry less weight, while important points can sometimes be missed if they are not clearly framed.
SM Planning can support you by ensuring your comments are clearly structured and expressed in planning terms, helping to ensure your concerns are properly understood and considered.
The deadline to submit an objection is set by the Local Planning Authority during the public consultation period for each planning application.
In most cases, this is typically within 21 days from the date the application is validated or publicised, although this can vary depending on the type and scale of the proposal.
It is important to submit any comments within the consultation period, as late representations may not always be taken into account before a decision is made.
If you are unsure of the deadline or need assistance preparing your objection, we can advise and ensure your comments are submitted within the required timeframe.
